In between travelling, celebrating birthdays, attending events, and the usual day-to-day craziness of the Jones household, I’ve been working hard with the Travel Without Limits team to bring the Spring/Summer 2023 issue to life!
Publishing Australia’s first (and only!) disability-specific magazine is a huge job: gathering stories from people with lived experience of travelling with a disability, assembling them into a magazine, sourcing images, fact checking, proof reading, proof reading again… And yet, every time I see the finished product, it all feels worth it.
This new issue is going to be sent off to the printer soon, but I just couldn’t wait to give you all a sneak peek at what’s coming. And if you subscribe right now, we’ll be able to squeeze you onto the mailing list so you can get the new issue hot off the presses!
Gold Coast Sparkles
The Gold Coast has so much to offer, for every kind of traveller – and we cover it all in this issue of Travel Without Limits. From the sparkling coastline to the lush national parks, riding high on rollercoasters to degustation delights, luxury accommodation to wet and wild watersports, you’ll never run out of ways to stay and play. Don’t miss the Q&A with Gold Coast tourism operators, where we get the inside scoop on how and why they’ve made their businesses inclusive for travellers of all abilities.
Accessible Africa
Catherine Marshall brings us the incredible story of a safari lodge in western Uganda that has become a source of health and prosperity for the region’s disability community – a must read! Plus, reader favourite Cory Lee tells us about how he made his childhood dreams come true in Egypt (when he wasn’t cruising Hawaiian islands or hitting the slopes in Switzerland).
Tropical North Queensland
Stretching from Cardwell to the Torres Strait, with Cairns as its sparkly hub, this spectacular northern region of Australia is a feast for all the senses. From art galleries to wildlife experiences to cable-car views to beautiful beach days, it’s all accessible and all unforgettable.
Morgan’s Wonderland
Regular readers will know how much I loved my experience at Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, so it should come as no surprise that I’m sharing it with Travel Without Limits readers as well. I got goosebumps standing at the entrance to this “ultra-accessible” theme park, and they stayed with me the whole time I was there. It’s an incredible experience for anyone with a disability to visit a theme park where every single experience is accessible for them – one I can’t recommend highly enough.
Dog-Friendly Travel
Whether your dog is an Assistance Animal or a beloved pet, you’ll get some great advice and inspiration in this new issue of Travel Without Limits. It turns out, you don’t have to sacrifice accessibility or amenities to find destinations and experiences that will welcome your four-legged friend. We have a bumper crop of recommendations for accommodation and activities around Australia, plus an in-depth interview with Debbie King about travelling to Canada with her amazing Assistance dog Zazu.
Beautiful Barcelona
First-time contributor Joan Pahisa – of the Trouble With Me podcast – takes us to his home city of Barcelona. It’s full of architectural twists and turns, highs and lows, spikes and spirals, and it’s surprisingly accessible and accommodating. We all know the best way to learn about a destination is to speak to the locals and get the inside scoop, and Joan gives us that in spades in the new issue.
Plus, the new issue has fun inclusive ideas for your next date night (don’t forget Valentine’s Day will come around sooner than you think!), a San Antonio guidebook for travellers to Texas, accessible art experiences around the country, and (can you believe it) much more!
It’s easy to get your hands on a copy to check it out for yourself. You can subscribe here, or purchase an electronic copy on Amazon (US) or Amazon (AU).
